We are pleased to invite you to a scientific mini-seminar on Thursday, June 4, from 9:00 to 12:00 at G-EAU, focusing on environmental justice issues in watershed conservation programs, with insights drawn from case studies in Brazil, Ecuador, and Colombia.
This event is part of the international project BIO-JUST (BIODIVERSA+), and we are honored to welcome several visiting researchers to Montpellier:
- Vanessa Empinotti – Associate Professor in Rural Planning and Policy at the Federal University of ABC (Brazil)
- Mirja Schoderer – Assistant Professor in Environmental Policy Analysis, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (Netherlands)
- Jean-Carlo Rodriguez – Researcher in Ecological Economics, German Development Institute (IDOS, Germany)
- Jaime Hoogesteger – Associate Professor on Water Commons and Collective, Wageningen University (Netherlands)
The morning will feature three presentations followed by discussions:
- “Producing uneven ruralities: a territorial analysis of a payment for ecosystem service program in Extrema, Brazil and its dialogue with environmental justice” – Vanessa Empinotti
- “Who protects the mountain? Conservation, care, and the struggle for recognition in the Misiguay Forests in Santander, Colombia” – Jean-Carlo Rodriguez & Mirja Schoderer
- “Community based paramo conservation in the Central Andes of Ecuador: what can we learn?” – Jaime Hoogesteger & Juan-Pablo Hidalgo (online)
This will be a great opportunity to exchange on their research, connect across disciplines, and enrich our shared thinking.
